Southern Arizona elected officials have made it clear that they oppose the Copper World mine.
On May 5, 2026, the Tucson City Council unanimously passed Resolution No. 24114 opposing Copper World and all open-pit mining in the Santa Rita Mountains. This followed Pima County’s fourth resolution opposing the mine, Resolution No. 2025-49, passed on October 21, 2025.
Members of the Pima County Board of Supervisors and Tucson City Council were among sixteen elected officials in Arizona who signed a full page ad in the Arizona Capitol Times asking Governor Hobbs to withdraw an auction of State Trust Land requested by Hudbay Minerals for Copper World.
