Why don’t we the citizens of southern Tucson just purchase the land the state wants to sale to Hudbay? I would easily pitch in to purchase it to keep a buffer zone, also the governor should step in and shutdown the water deal with the latest problems with the Colorado River deals or lack of deals

Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough time to raise the money we’d need to actually outbid Hudbay. The bidding starts at under $1 million, but there’s no telling how much Hudbay would spend to secure this land that could allow them to process an additional 41 million tons of copper ore, worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Our best bet at this point is to keep the pressure on Governor Hobbs to cancel this land sale. I encourage you to email her at engage@az.gov and share your concerns about this issue.
At a recent public meeting, a good-hearted citizen said he would gladly donate $10,000 toward purchasing the land that Hudbay wants. However, it would take 100 or more good-hearted people like him just to be in the bidding. And as Paige Humphrey says in her March 9 comment, “there’s no telling how much Hudbay would spend to secure this land.” As an April 29, 2026, deadline approaches, the best thing to do is express your strong opposition by contacting Gov. Hobbs at engage@az.gov.
