KVOA: “Despite strong opposition from neighbors, environmental groups, Copper World project secures land in auction”

Hudbay Minerals, the company behind a controversial copper mine project in Southern Arizona secured 160 acres of State Trust Land in an auction, Wednesday.

The land is near Corona De Tucson and the decision is drawing strong opposition from neighbors and environmental groups. Dozens showed up to protest outside the Arizona State Building in Downtown Tucson Wednesday morning right before the auction. Save The Scenic Santa Ritas and others were joined by several Pima County supervisors and Tucson City Council Member Miranda Schubert.
