Pima County is asking Arizona officials not to renew a permit to pump and use groundwater for the Copper World mining project ahead of its 2028 deadline.
County Administrator Jan Lesher, in a letter to Department of Water Resources Director Aaron Buschatzke, said pumping water for the open-pit mine 28 miles southeast of Tucson will have harmful effects on nearby Sahuarita and Green Valley.
