The developer of the Copper World mine has backed off from an earlier, much-promoted plan to produce finished copper on site rather than export copper concentrates overseas to China and other countries.
While Hudbay Minerals Inc. still holds out the possibility of someday producing finished copper at its mine site in the Santa Rita Mountains south of Tucson, its new Copper World feasibility study makes it clear that’s currently not in the company’s short- or long-term plans for the mine.
