Ron Steffens

Ron Steffens is an educator, writer and wildland fire manager based in Tucson and Wyoming. While attending the University of Arizona MFA program in creative writing in the 1980s-90s, he worked as a fire lookout south of Patagonia and as a fire manager in the Rincons, with numerous assignments in the Santa Ritas. After working as a writer in the schools throughout the state, he left Arizona to teach in Oregon and Vermont. He now teaches emergency management, communications and writing at Prescott College and works seasonally as an incident commander and fire analyst, based in Wyoming.

He has served as board member for various professional and conservation organizations, including the International Association of Wildland Fire and Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition. While his work as a fire trainer and writer has taken him to five continents, his preferred assignments are near home in southern Arizona.
