Alan Ruiz Berman

A Mexican and American conservation professional, Alan Ruiz Berman has over a decade of international experience working with socially and environmentally focused nonprofit organizations, including as an environmental educator, research program coordinator, and communications and development specialist. Alan earned a BA in marine science and visual art from Prescott College, AZ, and a MA in marine conservation from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand, a country where he led conservation programs for youth for five years, focusing on Indigenous guardianship, marine protected areas, and endangered riparian habitats. Alan has applied his passion for ecology, art, photography, storytelling, and experiential education, around the world, bringing diverse people together around collaborative and data-based solutions to a wide range of globally significant challenges. From helping Mexicsn fisherfolk manage their resources in the Gulf of California; to studying the impacts of our changing climate on the Caribbean's coral reefs; to advocating for more sustainable water use, green infrastructure, and biological corridors in Tucson, AZ, Alan is interested in how new and improved forms of communication and collaboration can help protect lives, livelihoods, cultures, ecosystems, and biological diversity.Â
